Germany and Australia intensify cooperation on solar energies
04.05.2010 | In February, two agreements to strengthen the German-Australian scientific cooperation were signed by representatives of Government and Science from both countries. The two ministries responsible for Science and Research (BMBF and DIISR) agreed to support the mobility of researchers over the next two years with a $500,000 fund for researchers in nanotechnology, environmental research, ICT and geo/marine sciences. Additional research programs in the field of solar photovoltaic are jointly funded up to $400,000.
Solar energy is also the focus of the second agreement signed between the German Fraunhofer-Institute for Solar Energy Systems and the Australian Solar Institute. Both institutes agreed on intensified cooperation, further exchange programs and joint workshops.
The signing ceremony in Canberra was followed by a reception hosted by German Ambassador, Dr Michael Witter.
The ceremony was the highlight of a visit made by 15 scientists from German research institutes to key Australian partners, relevant universities and research facilities in Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra.
